1900 Drexel Ave. House Fire

February 26, 2018 - The FWFD was dispatched to a reported house fire in the 1900 block of Drexel Avenue. While en route, units were notified that the occupant was self evacuating on the 2nd floor porch roof. The first fire unit arrived and was able to safely remove the occupant from the porch roof. The fire was brought under control in 9 minutes. The home sustained moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage. No other injuries were reported. The fire is under investigation.

Westwind Apartment Fire

February 22, 2018 - Ft Wayne Fire Dept. responded to an apartment fire this evening at the Westwind Apartments. Upon arrival a fire was noted in a ground floor apartment. Firefighters attacked the fire while others helped to search and evacuate the building. One resident was assisted down from a 3rd floor balcony via a fire Dept. ladder. No other residents were found in the building, two cats perished in the fire. The fire dept was assisted by  FWPD, TRAA, Neighborhood Code, I&M and the Red Cross. who are assisting with residents that were affected by the fire. The fire is under investigation.

Brookmill Courts Apartment Fire

February 18, 2018 - FWFD responded to a reported structure fire at Brookmill Courts Apartments. The first unit on the scene reported smoke and fire showing from a second floor window.  The occupants had self evacuated prior to fire department arrival.  Fire crews had the fire under control in eight minutes.  The fire damage was contained to the room of origin due to the fact the occupants shut the door prior to evacuating. The Fort Wayne Fire Department was assisted at the scene by: TRAA, Fort Wayne PD, Neighborhood Code, NIPSCO and Red Cross. The fire is under investigation.

2800 Barnhart Ave. House Fire

February 17, 2018 - The Fort Wayne Fire Dept. responded to reported house fire in the 2800 block of Barnhart Av.  Dispatchers had been talking to the women on the phone when the phone was dropped.  But the line was still open.  Dispatchers could hear the smoke alarm going off but was not sure if the women had made it out of the house.  So the dispatchers passed this information on to the responding units.  Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming out of the rear bedroom windows of the house.  Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire while other firefighters searched the residence for a victim.  Firefighters located the victim and brought her out to medics.  Medics transported the victim to a local hospital.  This fire was placed under control in about 15 minutes.  Heavy fire damage was reported to the back bedroom.  With moderate water damage and heavy smoke damage thorough out the structure.  Assisting at the scene were AEP, NIPSCO, TRAA, FWPD, NEC.  No injuries were reported to firefighters and this fire remains under investigation.

1600 Lake Ave. House Fire

February 8, 2018 - The Ft Wayne Fire Dept responded to a reported car fire this morning on Lake Ave. The car was heavily involved and the fire extended to the house next door. The house suffered fire damage to both the 1st and 2nd floors. No injuries were reported and all units returned to service.
