We will accomplish this mission through fire suppression, rescue, code enforcement, public education, fire investigation, and professional development training. The Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 4333 Avondale Drive on September 4th at 12:45 a.m. On the first unit's arrival, heavy smoke was found coming from the one story residential structure. Firefighters used an aggressive interior attack to bring the blaze under control in sixteen minutes. Six people were alerted to the fire by a smoke detector and were out of the structure on the fire departments arrival. There was heavy fire damage to the living room and kitchen area of the house. No firefighters were injured fighting the blaze and the cause is under investigation at this time. |

Smoke Alarms
The Fort Wayne Fire Department (FWFD) is offering a new Smoke Alarm Distribution Program that is a need-based program using Housing & Urban Development (HUD) Income Guidelines to provide smoke alarms in homes for those that would not be able to afford them.
