Hiring Updates
Thank you for your interest in the Fort Wayne Fire Department. We are NOT currently accepting applications nor are applications available at this time.
Hiring Update
As you know, the Fort Wayne Fire Department is currently NOT hiring. We removed the hiring class from the 2013 budget due the fragile economic climate. Rest assured, Fort Wayne Fire Administration has been working hard, and continues to meet with city council members and other city staff to share and identify potential/alternative revenue streams that may make a class possible. Chief Biggs is 100% committed to hosting a class. A new class not only improves the staffing level numbers, but supports the primary objective she has as Fire Chief –a pledge to the health, safety, well-being and the security of all current and future FWFD members.
A Future Class?
You may have seen in recent weeks, the City’s Fiscal Policy Committee, has been tasked to review the 2014 budget and make fiscally sound recommendations to meet the budget constraints but to maintain the level of service residents have come to expect. Of their many recommendations, the committee is recommending the Fort Wayne Fire Department hire a class of 15 this year. Please be aware this is merely a proposal. Any hiring decision cannot be made until City Council approves this and other budget recommendations. Budget recommendations will not be considered until at least the end of June 2013.
What Should I Be Doing In the Meantime?
Although a FWFD hiring class is not currently scheduled, if you are planning to apply with the Fort Wayne Fire Department in the future, you should familiarize yourself with our process. Many resources are available on our website at www.fortwaynefiredepartment.org.
Hiring Informational Open Houses
We will continue to host Open Houses at stations throughout the city. These Open Houses are designed to provide interested candidates the opportunity to visit station houses to learn more about the FWFD. Information, tours and a Q & A period with current Fort Wayne Firefighters will provide you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with our department; gain insight and understanding about a career in the fire service industry; and also learn more about FWFD’s hiring process.
